Product Description

Bottled exclusively for The Whisky Exchange, this limited-edition Powers was drawn from five refill bourbon barrels laid down in 2005. The use of refill casks means that even after 17 years maturation the oak influence remains light and the spirit really shines. In the glass, this shows all the character and finesse we’ve come to expect from Midleton distillery’s pot still whiskies with a complex palate of soft fruits and delicate spices.

Whiskey

(With an E)

We launched this exceptional bottling on 1 April 2024, announcing that it was to be the first of many bottlings to feature our new company name ‘The Whiskey Exchange’. This elicited a few strong reactions from the whisky community before we revealed that the name change had been just a bit of April Fools' fun. The Powers 2005 17 Year Old is, however, very real and absolutely delicious. It is the only bottling we will ever produce featuring the alternative spelling ‘The Whiskey Exchange’ and a particularly fine and very collectable – example of pot still whiskey.

Discover pot still whiskey

This unique spirit differs from single malt in that it is based on a combination of malted barley and un-malted grain. It came to prominence in Ireland in the 19th century, as a workaround for colonial taxes on the use of malt. At one time, pot still whiskey looked as though it might disappear forever, but Midleton in County Cork kept producing it into the 2000s, where it was rediscovered by the whiskey world. Today, Midleton is the only distillery in the world able to release mature pot still whiskies like this beautiful Powers 17 Year Old.
