Product Description

Built around a core of fruity pot still whiskey, this elegant old blend was aged in a combination of bourbon and oloroso sherry casks at the venerable Midleton distillery. More than two decades in oak have added vivid aromas of toasted nuts, chocolate and coffee beans to Jameson’s characteristic orchard fruits and vanilla. An excellent example of the blenders craft that shows a perfect balance of cask influence and spirit character. This limited-edition bottling is a must-have for Irish whiskey collectors and anyone who appreciates a fine dram.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Joe Rogers (The Whisky Exchange)

    • Nose

Pecans and hazelnuts, walnut liqueur, and hot chocolate. Warm earth and autumn leaves. A fruity side makes itself over time with apple tart and caramel sauce, and red wine poached pears.

    • Palate

More cooked white fruits, mango jam, papaya, dried apricots, golden sultanas, crème caramel, and chocolate fudge brownies with whipped cream. That nuttiness re-emerges with marzipan, nutmeg and ground ginger, green coffee beans, and a drop of imperial stout. The bourbon and sherry casks bring a great sense of richness and texture but they don’t overwhelm the fruity pot still whiskey at the core of the blend. Very nicely done.

    • Finish

Long and oily with an earthiness that keeps the sweeter notes in balance. The tropical fruits come back at the end accompanied by warming spices.

  • From the Producer

    • Nose

Chocolate dipped honeycomb with orange zest, charred oak and vanilla spice. Dried apricots with hints of ginger and nutmeg add to the array of aromas.

    • Taste

Woodland spices and soft oak tannins. Waves of vanilla evolve over time. Sherry nuttiness combined with creamy textured fudge, working in balance with the pot still spices and floral grain undertones.

Jameson

In the world of whiskey, there are few names as famous as John Jameson. The Scottish-born lawyer took over Stein’s Bow Street distillery in 1805 and eventually passed the site to his son, who also inherited Jameson Sr’s name as well as his formidable aptitude for business. John II expanded Bow Street to become one of the largest and most sophisticated distilleries in the world. At its peak, this Dublin landmark employed some 300 coopers, coppersmiths, engineers and other workers, who produced more than a million litres of spirit each year.

An Enduring Classic

The 20th century brought hard times that forced many distilleries across the island of Ireland to fall silent, never to reopen. Even in the midst of these hardships, Jameson never left the shelves. In fact, it was the global popularity of the brand which helped keep the Irish whiskey industry alive and propelled it to newfound prosperity in the 2010s. From the flagship Jameson whiskey to prestige blends like this one, every expression that bears the Jameson name shares the signature fruitiness that is greatly intensified in older expressions.
