John Shenk made his first rye whiskies in Pennsylvania in 1753. The distillery he built prospered through the centuries and in the 1950s was rebranded as Michter’s by its then owner Lou Forman – the new brand being a portmanteau of his son’s names, Michael and Peter. The Pennsylvania plant closed in 1990 amid difficult economic conditions, but this was not the end of the Michter’s story. The trademark was resurrected in the mid-1990s to market sourced whiskies from Kentucky and in 2015 a new Michter’s distillery opened in Louisville. This tasting set showcases the range of Michter’s whiskeys that has been captivating whiskey fans ever since.
