Spirit and Cask

Bunnahabhain’s robust, oily spirit is particularly well-suited to maturation in ex-sherry casks. To create the 2023 edition of this modern classic, master blender Julieann Fernandez married together first- and second-fill oloroso casks, along with a handful of bourbon barrels. The sherry influence shows itself in those bold dried fruit notes, while the American oak provides spice and a hint of vanilla cream in the finish. Without any added water or colouring, this bottling offers a clear expression of the Bunnahabhain spirit, the quality of the casks and the skill of the master blender.

Bunnahabhain

Bu-na-ha-venn

This monumental distillery has made whisky on Islay’s north-east coast since 1881. While the island is best-known for its heavily-peated whiskies, Bunnahabhain produces a range of styles from the robustly smoky to the totally un-peated. Even in those cleaner, more elegant expressions there remains a sense of coastal ruggedness that is unmistakably of Islay.

    Anonymous,

I fully agree with that. I won’t go into tasting notes, but I will say the the TWE notes are pretty much spot on, with the exception of the smoke. It’s basically an amped version of the OB 12. I will also add that each year this has been better than the preceding years releases. A must have for whisky lovers, especially high proof lovers like me.
