Product Description
This big, bold and spicy single-cask rye from Stoll & Wolfe pays tribute to the rye whiskey heritage of Pennsylvania and looks to translate traditional recipes into the modern day. Whiskey veteran Dick Stoll and distillery founder Erik Wolfe have chosen a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley, and have bottled at cask strength. There are aromas of dried apricot, tobacco leaf, honeydew melon and hints of gingerbread on the nose, complemented by notes of maple syrup and caramelised figs.
I was already captivated by the story of this producer and its goal of resurrecting an older-style of Pennsylvanian whiskey, but when I eventually tasted this rye I was blown away by its complex, meaty character. I must now try this in every Manhattan variation known to man. Amardeep Grewal, The Whisky Exchange

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes
Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange
Nose
Toasted rye bread and speculaas biscuits, with baking spices and brown sugar. Savoury grain notes develop – bread and pastry – with an edge of singed beef umami. Fruit develops: apples roasted in brown butter.
Palate
Intense and very rye-forward, with big spice as well as a hint of citrus peel zinginess. Toffee and liquorice build along with savoury grain notes from the nose. Sweet and savoury are both well balanced by dark chocolate.
Finish
Toasted rye, liquorice and chocolate slowly fade to leave mint choc chips.

This is liquid history and if you are familiar with Michter's long history, the story behind Stoll & Wolfe is absolutely unique. With help of the old Michter's master distiller they try to create a whiskey, that follows the profile of the 1980ies Michter's. And if you are familiar with Bomberger's, Shenk's - if you know about the dramas for the name copyrights you understand the immense impact of Michter's to the history of American whiskey. It was a absolute pleasure to taste this whiskey, which stands for itself as well as for a time, that's gone long long time ago. The brand itself is so new, that only the usual nerdy suspects diggin here, but you can be shure in a few years, Stoll & Wolfe editions will sell out instantly as a drop of water on a hot stone.
