This exceptional whiskey takes everything we love about the classic Yellow Spot to new heights. At 23 years old, it’s a perfect example of cask and spirit working in harmony. Following initial maturation in bourbon barrels, this fruity pot still whiskey was filled into a single sweet Malaga cask. Over the years, the influence of this Spanish fortified wine has imparted a luxurious roundness to the palate along with notes of sultana, vanilla and warming oak. Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange
Nose
Vanilla toffee covered in layers of fruit: apricots, pears, white peaches, sultanas, raisins and freshly grated orange zest. Touches of sappy pine develop alongside cinnamon spice, brown sugar and fruit cake. Darker notes of stewed berry fruits hide at the back.
Palate
Rich, thick and sweet, with the brown sugar and spice from the nose leading. The dried and rich fruit notes follow, along with roasted peach, sultanas and fruit cake slathered with berry jam. Oaky spice provides a solid backbone.
Finish
Polished oak and brown sugar fade to leave spiced baked apples and fruit cake.

Nose
Surprisingly green at first with woody herbs, Earl Grey tea, Christmas trees, Italian bitters and mentholated tobacco. It gets sweeter with time in the glass, showing golden fruitcake, strawberry laces and Haribo peaches – that legendary pot still whiskey fruitiness.
Palate
Treacle toffee, flamed orange, rum babas and Chinese five spice. Then stewed stone fruits, dried apples and pears and a little honey. The Malaga influence shows itself with dark brown sugar, dates and oxidative notes of hazelnut, walnut and autumn leaves.
Finish
Nutty with oak spice, brown sugar sweetness, a little red liquorice and a lingering oiliness. Overall rich, concentrated and very impressive.
Yellow Spot
Yellow Spot was born in the early 20th century at Mitchell & Son, a Dublin wine merchant and whiskey bonder. The Mitchells were great importers of fortified wines – immensely popular in the Irish capital at the time – which left them with an abundant supply of casks that could be put to the noble task of maturing whiskey. Each one laid down in their cellars was given a dab of coloured paint to identify its provenance and ageing potential, a tradition which in time provided the inspiration for Midleton distillery’s beloved Green Spot and Yellow Spot pot still whiskies.

Lots of pungent fruits and spice, smells of an orchard with all spice, and tastes exactly the same, extremely pleasant, possibly 3rd best IPS I’ve tried, didn’t want to open it, but glad I did.
