Product Description

The first single cask Red Spot ever created is available exclusively at The Whisky Exchange. Aged entirely at Midleton distillery in County Cork and finished in Sicilian Marsala casks, this is a generous dram reminiscent of tobacco leaves, raw cocoa, prunes and raisins. The vivid fresh fruit notes we love to see in old Irish whiskies are especially noticeable on the palate with apricots and peaches mingling with darker hints of plum and blackcurrant. Soft tannins and a fresh, herbal side maintain balance over a long and elegant finish.

The Spot Whiskey

The People’s Margarita

The story of Red Spot begins in the late 19th century at Mitchell & Son on Dublin’s Grafton Street. The Mitchells were importers of fortified wines like port and sherry, which left them with a ready supply of quality casks in their possession. It was the 1880s when they began sending these casks to the nearby Bow Street distillery (owned by a certain Mr Jameson) to be filled with new make spirit. By marking each sherry butt or port pipe with different coloured spots of paint, the Mitchells could identify the ageing potential of every whiskey in their cellars.

Made in Ireland

Red Spot returned in 2018, after a long absence, as a fruity dram lent extra richness and depth through partial ageing in Marsala casks. This exceptional single cask bottling offers a richer, more mature expression of the modern classic Red Spot distilled at Midleton in County Cork.
