Product Description
One of only a handful of long-aged distillery-bottled releases of Glenury Royal. This 1970 vintage is very special whisky from a tragically lost distillery. Impeccable cask selection has led to perhaps the best of Diageo's recent releases from Glenury.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes by The Whisky Exchange
Nose
Roses, tinned pears, ginger and clove. Apple pie and freshly plucked apple notes develop.
Palate
Rich and oily texture. Ripe fruit leads, with pressed flowers, honey and spiced sponge cake.
Finish
Very long, fading slowly to leave oaky spice.
Tasting Notes by Tim F
Nose
Perfumed and floral (roses), hint of Chinese balloons initially. Then tinned pear, fresh ginger and a hint of clove. Fresh red apple, then baked apple and a hint of overcooked pie crust (getting a bit Jilly Goolden here, for which apologies). Some nice sweet notes. Very promising.
Palate
Carries on the good work of the nose. Medium-to-full weight, plenty of ripe fruit notes, pressed flowers, honey and cake spices, lovely oily mouth-coating texture. Great weight and balance - the oak is a positive presence, but not an intrusive one. This balance allows all the nuances of flavour an equal opportunity to come forward. Somehow the alcohol is not over-powering tasted neat.
Finish
Long. Drifts away very slowly with a lovely dance of spices and polished wood.
Comment
Basically this is a great malt whisky. Given the rarity of official releases from this distillery, the quality of the malt and the prevailing collector's enthusiasm for the brand (I don't like that word, but we all have to live with 'em), this is something a bit special.

Tried this whisky several years ago when it was on special offer. To be honest i thought it was ok, but nothing more. It was quite smooth, didn't burn the back of your throat, but definitely not worth the price, there are other whiskies out there that ive enjoyed a lot more for a fraction of the cost.
Probably the best whiskey i have ever tasted, I total agree with McFly, here you can really feel that price and quality goes together. I am also thinking about buying another bottle
i am quite dissapointed with this...the high abv burns down the throat, this one only can drink with water and neat does not works out to be pleseant...also does not justifies its hefty price,
The best whisky I've ever tasted. It's full of flavour and despite its high alcohol content it doesn't burn the throat on the way down. Because of the high cost I only poured myself out half a measure, but even so, after I had finished I could feel I had had a drink!! This one I'm going to savour. Seriously thinking about buying another bottle too!
a superb dram of the golden stuff! we tried this in December; http://angelswhiskyclub.com/awc/decembertaste.asp and still have half a bottle remaining, keeping this for that special time, Paul McLean, Angels whisky club
