Product Description

This stunning single malt was distilled on the first full year after the distillery changed its name from Braes of Glenlivet to Braeval. It was matured for 28 years in a first-fill American oak barrel before being selected by The Whisky Exchange and Chivas Brothers to become part of the Lost in Time series. You’ll find warming notes of sticky toffee pudding, desiccated coconut, stewed pears and hints of white chocolate, complemented by raspberry turnovers and big, bright red apples.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange

    • Nose

Lemon boiled sweets, juicy orange, oatcakes and butterscotch kick things off. Savoury bready notes are balanced by sweet baking spice. Spiced shortbread develops.

    • Palate

A big hit of butterscotch to begin followed by intense fruit: apples, pears, lemons and grapefruit peels. The baking spice from the nose becomes pineapple upside-down cake. Candied barley sugar notes and travel sweets follow.

    • Finish

Sherbet lemons, butterscotch and Dutch stroopwaffel linger.

Braeval

Braeval is a powerhouse of a distillery that – like the many illicit producers that once inhabited the area – has largely remained out of the limelight. This picturesque Speysider spends the days quietly producing bright, elegant whiskies for blending. As a resullt Braeval single malt is rarely seen in the wild, especially a single cask like this one bottled at the height of its maturation. A fascinating glimpse of a lesser-seen style, filled with poise and complexity.

Lost In Time

These eight casks, selected by Chivas Brothers and The Whisky Exchange, showcase some of Speyside’s great distilleries around the turn of the millennium. Each one has been bottled at a point where the distillery character and the influence of oak and time is in perfect balance. As casks filled before the great single malt boom of the early 2000s become increasingly hard to come by, we are proud to offer this collection as a lasting tribute to the Speyside region.
