Glenallachie 2009 / 14 Year Old / Sherry Cask / Exclusive To The Whisky Exchange
Product Description

A complex and fruity 2009 Glenallachie specially selected for The Whisky Exchange and bottled in 2024. This robust yet elegant single malt was fully matured in an ex-sherry butt – working tremendously well with the distillery’s malty and fruity spirit, without overpowering its essence. The dram develops beautifully with a little water and shows notes of manuka honey, spiced orange, candied ginger, roasted tobacco, damsons, freshly ground coffee and hints of dried red berries.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Joe Rogers (The Whisky Exchange)

    • Nose

Cacao nibs, maraschino cherries, chocolate malt, new leather, raisins, ginger liqueur, plum wine, a slice of Battenberg cake.

    • Palate

Polished wood, manuka honey, more plums and cherries, kola nuts. Don’t be afraid to add water here, it brings out lots of juicy red and black berries, russet apples, some mentholated tobacco, toasted chestnuts, a couple of smoked almonds, hazelnut chocolate, cranberry sauce, a little root beer.

    • Finish

Long and surprisingly fresh with summer pudding, mint and chai spice.

  • Ning Heywood, The Whisky Exchange

    • Nose

Rich malt, sultanas and fresh apricots open on the nose, followed by sticky fudge, green apple, crystallised ginger, tobacco leaves and damson plums.

    • Palate

Yellow plum, raisins, dry oak spice and dark honeycomb to start. Notes of cinnamon spice, blackberry crumble and hot chocolate build, with touches of ginger, caramel and red berries.

    • Finish

Softer spice and fresh fruit linger, over a backdrop of vanilla fudge, mocha and tobacco.
