A New Riff

In 2014 spirits retailer and entrepreneur Ken Lewis embarked on a new venture with New Riff Distilling. Drawing inspiration from Kentucky bourbon traditions, this family-owned business combined innovation with a commitment to quality. The team at New Riff is dedicated and patient in their approach to whiskey, with the ultimate goal of becoming one of the world’s great small distilleries. In a country dominated by a handful of large producers, New Riff’s approach to whiskey making is a breath of fresh air, positioning them as an emerging player in a vibrant craft distilling scene.

The Patient Approach

This single barrel release from New Riff is our first exclusive from the Kentucky producer. It started with a mashbill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley and was matured for four years and eight months in a charred oak cask. Unlike most American whiskies that undergo heavier charring, the cask was lightly charred to level 1, imparting a wood influence whilst concentrating heavily on the spirit’s spicy character.

    Alex L,

Absolutely stunning. Incredibly complex and drinks far lower than the proof. A very special bottle indeed.

    Rik,

I visited the distillery last year when I was in Cincinnati for business and bought a couple of bottles home (after a lot of tasting), and they were very good. New Riff is also on the official Kentucky Bourbon tour - give it a go.
