Product Description
This sherried Orkney single malt offers an intense palate of cedar wood, baking spices and roasted nuts with background notes of cocoa and black olives. A distinctive chestnut honey character and the slightly floral peat smoke threaded throughout should leave you in no doubt as to this dram’s origins. Ideal whisky for a cold winter’s evening, crack a bottle open and pretend you’re on Orkney under the Northern Lights.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes
Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange
Nose
Rich raisins and dates with a touch of polished leather. Rounder red fruit and glacé cherry notes develop, along with bright vanilla toffee and dark treacle. Fruity dark chocolate and spiced milk chocolate notes build, balanced by a wisp of wood smoke.
Palate
Woody smoke lead, wrapped up in blackcurrants and blackberries. Dark chocolate brownies and rich fruit cake follow, with a touch of leather at the end. More savoury char and bread notes hide underneath with lashings of cherry jam.
Finish
Dark chocolate and liquorice slowly fade, leaving berry jam and polished oak.
Dawn Davies, The Whisky Exchange
Nose
Roasted chestnuts and caramelised orange with peel, a hint of spice, carrot cake and marzipan.
Palate
Lots of raisins, dark chocolate and cacao nibs with a hint of open fire.
Cask and Spirit
When we began searching for whiskies to represent winter in our series The Seasons, we knew smoke and sherry should feature. These lightly peated Orkney single malts always show a remarkable affinity for sherry casks, but this one – drawn from a single oloroso hogshead – was a particular standout. In the glass it shows a perfect balance of soft smoke, honeyed richness and deep oloroso influence.
The Seasons:
Winter
To capture the flavours and feelings of a cold winter’s night, we’ve paired this sherried Orkney whisky with a bold young Laphroaig and a rich, indulgent Blair Athol. These three exceptional single malts are part of a series of 12 bottlings which began with the release of The Seasons: Summer and concludes with Spring. Each whisky in the collection is limited to the outturn of a single cask and is non-chill filtered and presented at its natural colour.
