Product Description
This intensely peated whisky tastes like a beach barbecue on a cold Islay evening, offering notes of smoked meats, seaweed, brine and ashes. The deep colour of this punchy young single malt is all natural, achieved through maturation in a particularly good-quality oloroso hogshead. This is a big dram in every sense of the word, boasting intense smokiness and layers of umami-filled sherry influence. You can add a dash of water to reveal a sweeter side, with hints of cherry drops and blackcurrants.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes
Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange
Nose
New leather, oatcakes, coal stoves and burning logs. Cinder toffee and dark chocolate develop, along with dark caramel and singed autumn leaves. Briny sea breezes blow the smoke around. Clove-studded oranges and spiced chocolate sauce hide at the back.
Palate
Creosoted fences, tarred ropes and charred mint leaves lead to dark berry and cherry jam, dark chocolate and intense clove and cinnamon spiciness. Dark bread cooked in a wood-fired oven, slathered with honey and served on a warm leather plate.
Finish
Tar and liquorice fade to leave charred apples and muddled mint.
Dawn Davies, The Whisky Exchange
Nose
Rich dark fruits with a hint of ash and moss, roasted almonds, raisins and liquorice.
Palate
Toffee, coffee, roasted marshmallows, glacé cherry and nutmeg with a bonfire-ash note on the finish.
Come in From the Cold
If you’re looking for a winter warmer, Islay is a natural place to start. Laphroaig, on the island’s south coast, produces single malts that are bold enough for even the coldest weather. They also stand up beautifully to intense sherry-cask maturation, which makes dark and rich expressions like this one a real treat. It’s always a pleasure to sample single cask Laphroaig, but this one stood out to us as a perfect choice for The Seasons: Winter.
The Seasons
Winter
The third instalment in The Seasons series finds this heavyweight Laphroaig joined by an Orkney single malt with notes of cocoa and spices and a fruity and nuanced Blair Athol aged for 16 years in a single sherry butt. Every bottling created for The Seasons is strictly limited and offered without chill filtration or added colouring. This collection of 12 whiskies charts the flavours and feelings of the passing seasons, beginning with summer and concluding with spring.

Customer Reviews
(1 Review)
Not at all a sherry or smoke bomb, but very nice. The same classic signature as the 10 year old cask strength, but with a pleasant twist. Annoyingly, however, and I wish I’d checked this first, it doesn’t seem to be un-filtered.
