Product Description
A superb winter warmer from a top Highland distillery, this decadent Blair Athol is dense and rich with notes of treacle toffee, crystalised fruit and stem ginger. Aromatic spices and hints of leather and mushrooms give the impression of a whisky much older than 16 years. It was this sense of depth and complexity that made this a natural choice to invoke a cosy winter’s evening in our limited series The Seasons. The impressive colour of this whisky is natural, gained through maturation in a single sherry butt.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes
Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange
Nose
Spiced baked apples and wine-poached pears lead to a lake of toffee dusted with nutmeg. Toffee and caramel notes dominate the centre, with hints of chocolate and liquorice around the edges.
Palate
Rich and fruity at first, with raisins and sultanas balanced by a touch of bitter char. The orchard fruit from the nose returns, alongside chocolate sauce and liquorice. Damp oak develops along with blackcurrant jam.
Finish
Dark fruit and spice build; polished oak and brown sugar linger.
Dawn Davies, The Whisky Exchange
Nose
Walnuts, leather, forest floor and a hint of fireworks with some raisin and sultana behind.
Palate
Big, rich and bold with dried fruits layered with nuts and sweet spices.
Warm in the Winter
Sherry casks have been used to aged whisky since at least the 19th century, when sherry was one of the most popular drinks in England and Scotland. It’s often said that single malts aged in oloroso sherry casks taste like Christmas, with their rich notes of dried fruit, nuts and spices that bring to mind festive treats. It’s that classic combination of Highland whisky and Spanish sherry influence that makes this Blair Athol the perfect cold-weather dram – a superb cask from one of Scotland’s great distilleries.
The Seasons:
Winter
To capture the flavours of winter for our limited series, The Seasons, we’ve paired this beautifully aged Blair Athol with a lightly peated single malt from Orkney and a seriously smoky Laphroaig. All three have been aged in sherry casks to create the rich and warming profile we wanted from The Seasons: Winter. Explore the range below to complete the collection of 12 single malts that tell the story of the passing seasons.
