A fruity, rich 2014 Mortlach single malt that was bottled for The Whisky Exchange by Signatory after 10 years in a first-fil Bolgheri wine hogshead. This Super Tuscan wine has imparted layers of cherries, dried fruit, baking spices and citrus that mingle with notes of sweet malt, runny honey and cinder toffee throughout the palate.

Tasting Notes

- Nose
  Rich and fruity, with black cherries, blackcurrants and redcurrants joined by nectarines. Dark chocolate and brown sugar follow, with hints of black liquorice and chocolate brownie.
- Palate
  Thick, with a background of spice. Thick chocolate fudge cake emerges, studded with singed raisins and red-fruit jam. more savoury than expected from the nose.
- Finish
  Long and warming, with black cherry, chocolate fudge and gentle aniseed.

The Bolgheri region in southwest Tuscany is known for being the birthplace of Super Tuscan wines, an iconic Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, as well as other varieties of grape commonly grown in Bordeaux.

The winery that this cask comes from is one of the best in the region and was one of the first producers to create Super Tuscan wines. It is one of the best producers in the world and is famous among wine lovers and critics alike.

Founded in 1988, Signatory has spent almost 40 years as one of Scotland’s most respected independent bottlers. Led by Andrew Symington, who learned his trade selecting casks for the Prestonfield Hotel in Edinburgh, the company is well known for having not only excellent, well-aged stocks of whisky but also for experimenting with casks and cask finishing. Add to that its regular release schedule, and you have an indie bottler that reliably offers whiskies to suit every palate.
