A peated expression of everyone's favourite Welsh whisky, Penderyn. After an initial maturation in ex-bourbon casks, Penderyn Peated undergoes a secondary maturation in casks previously used to hold Islay whisky, layering an aromatic, smoky flavour over the Welsh distillery's signature light and fruity character.

The Penderyn Peated in this bottle has been aged in ex-bourbon barrels and ex-peated Scotch whisky casks to bring out its appealing character. At a generous 46% ABV, it introduces itself with sweet, aromatic smoke. Under this there are signature notes of vanilla, green apple and refreshing citrus. An array of gentle flavours tempts even the most sophisticated palate, while smoke and vanilla linger on the attractive medium length finish.

This is horrible. It has no depth and tastes tinny. I could hardly make out any peatiness at all.

I love peaty whiskies and this is a disgrace. It tastes mostly of alcohol. It seems very young. Taking its peaty flavour (if you can call it that) from a barrel does very little for it. This can not be compared to an Islay malt and may not even deserve to call itself a whisky. One of the worst whiskies I have ever had. The tasting notes from the producer are pure lies. Do not buy this if you are a serious drinker of peaty whiskies or indeed a serious drinker of whiskies.

Tried this at the distillery and it was very nice. As many other reviews have stated it is the barrel that gives the peated flavour and not the traditional process. I d9 not usually go for the heavily peated malts preferring the speyside malts it this has enough of that gentle speyside feel with the excitement of the Islay malts but with a Welsh twist!
