W.L. Weller is a very old Bourbon brand dating from the late 1800s. Julian P. 'Pappy' Van Winkle began working for the original W. L. Weller whiskey company in the 1890s, and was the company president by the end of Prohibition, when Weller was merged with the Stitzel distillery company and the new Stitzel-Weller distillery was built.
