I.W. Harper are one of the main reasons Louisville became a major player in the bourbon distilling industry. The distillery was opened in 1870 by I.W. Bernheim and by 1955 the brand had found international success, appearing in magazines and movies. In 1992 a larger distillery named Bernheim Distillery was opened in Louisville by United Distillers, who owned the brand name at the time.
