A 100 proof rye whiskey bottled under the reinvigorated James E Pepper label. James's grandfather has a claim to having opened the first Kentucky Distillery in 1776, but the James Pepper brand really hit its height in the early part of the 20th century, although it had disappeared by the latter parts. It's now back with this bourbon-esque, fruity rye whiskey.

Words fail me to describe my first sip of this Rye....but I'll do my best for you! Unbelievably rich with an understated nose that belies the deep spice and amazing flavors. Pepper and ginger, root beer and honey, oak and vanilla bean lead up to a sweet and clean end. I love Sazerac and Col. E.H. Taylor Ryes. 1776 can be added to that club and hold it own with ease. I will purchase this bottle again...and probably again. My friends are in for a real treat this Christmas....Treat yourself and buy a bottle of this fantastic Rye.
