Aye, well....while an improvement on the disappointing batch #50 this step in a better direction still leaves much to be desired as it has less character and subtleties than many of the earlier batches - I am pretty sure I detect somewhat younger spirit-or a higher proportion thereof -as well as the use of inferior woods-or perhaps ''yet again''-refilled butts....... One cannot help but wonder whether they have run out of the good stuff, or are constrained perhaps to use more and more 3-6 year old spirit....or perhaps the blenders have had to submit to the Gods of sales and marketing'' and just hope those of us with longer memories-or still having a wee store of previous batches - will die off can sell more of this sort of thing to those who don''t know any better...... Ian has it right to suggest leaving it a fair while longer with the water in helps a bit. Sad to see a decent dram slipping into the ''modern era''
Very different to the Batch 50. A smoky finish, and not as sweet, initially I was disappointed as I had so enjoyed my bottle of Batch 50 - but with a little water and allowing it to "breath" for a few minutes before drinking the batch 51 is growing on me...
