Tincup American Whiskey Reviews

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting notes by Billy A

Nose: Big spice and fruit - apple with cinnamon, clove and toasted, spiced brioche. Rich toffee and caramel, ginger nut biscuits and sweet oatcakes with honey.

Palate: Quite light with sweet grain, cinnamon spice and a trio of apple notes - ripe, skin and Jolly Ranchers. Toffee follows, with spicy rye and toasted fruit loaf.

Finish: Cinnamon toast, tannic raisins and soft caramel sweetness.

This is a very good whiskey. Admittedly, I am new to the whiskey rodeo. But I am learning. This whiskey if very smooth straight... i.e. no mix. I like it that way. But sometimes I cut it with Coke. Either way you cannot go wrong. Do not hesitate. Buy this. On top of that the bottle is way cool. A six-sided bottle with a tin shot glass/cup on top. It is embossed on the sides. Beautiful bottle. I prefer whiskeys with cork stoppers which this has. There is no way I am recyling this bottle. It is a work of art on top of the product being very good at this price point. Time for another sip.

I am a Kentuckian and a bourbon snob... I decided to give this non-Kentucky whiskey a try because of clever packaging and ad campaign... What a pleasant surprise.. complex.. smooth.. Delicious! Made from Hoosier "rye bourbon".. fantastic flavor .. try it straight out of the freezer in the metal shot glass provided.. also frozen... I was not disappointed.. will be buying this again..

On top of a mountain is the last place I want to be when I am enjoying 80 proof spirits. However, I found TinCup to be a pleasure. I'll probably stick with old faithful (Jim Beam) but will buy TinCup when I want to impress someone. Nice bourbon.

This whiskey smells wonderfully sweet. Unfortunately, there isn't much sweetness when it hits the tongue. Instead it's a very spicy whiskey with too much rye flavour for my liking. But if you like rye whiskey, Tincup is probably worth buying.

Outstanding in old fashioneds and on the rocks. Lost in a Kentucky mule. Great value.

I like it in old fashioneds. The higher rye content cuts the typical sweetness of bourbon. Old fashions tend to be sweet because of the added sugar and some Bourbons are just too sweet. This is perfect. It is also nice on ice.

A great whiskey, fruity and sweet. It's perhaps slightly better than many similar priced bottles but at the same time it's far from the greatest. Well worth checking out. The actual tin cup is a nice touch

At the price point, tin cup is kind of amazing for a middle of the road whiskey. It seems to sit in between the rye/bourbon divide, offering a palate that isn't too sweet or too bitter. The first bottle I had was kind of awful, but after trying it again in a new atmosphere and state of being it is fantastice. Good for cocktails (I recommend an Old Fashioned with maple syrup in place of simple syrup or sugar cube) and just dandy with a couple rocks. It won't reinvent the wheel, but it wonderfully accessible and firmly inoffensive.

I really wanted to love this whiskey because of the appeal. It packaged awesomely and I appreciate the mountains quite a bit as well. However, the nose was not very impressive although allowing it to breathe does help. I got a touch of dried red berries with brown sugar and vanilla tailing with a little pepper. It seems a little complex at first until you realize this whiskey is heavily cut. Over all it's an okay bottle with a lot more appeal than taste. It does go down smooth and the price point isn't to bad although you could be drinking Elijah Craig or Buffalo Trace for the same cost. Not something that I see myself repurchasing.

My favorite ( bourbon ) although it does have that whiskey taste . The taste is smooth with a nice bite but goes down much smoother that most ryes . It has a nice bite/ kick to it that many bourbons do not. It is a whiskey kick with bourbon smooth finish . Best combo around at great price !

Taste is ok nothing special, but don't drink from tin cup (then i hate the taste) is complete other taste if you drink from glass. I like the bottle design and advertising.
