Glenallachie 10 Year Old Cask Strength Batch 6
Product Description

The sixth batch of Glenallachie's cask strength 10 Year Old has been matured in a combination of Pedro Ximenez and oloroso sherry puncheons, as well as a small number of virgin oak and ex-Rioja wine casks. Aromas of heather honey, dark chocolate, mocha, cinnamon, almonds and orange peel fill the nose, complemented by notes of dark chocolate, honey-glazed almonds, heather, marmalade, grapefruit and cinnamon throughout the palate and lingering in the finish.

Surprised to be the first to review, but having splurged on a bottle for £100 I fear I may have paid over the odds, having seen adverts (albeit now out of stock for closer to £60-70). However I must admit I loved this tipple, and despite the high cask strength, I didn’t need to add any water having found it very sweet and smooth. Real sweet sherry bomb, with added Christmas cake style notes of complexity. It may be my favourite of all time (but haven’t worked through all of the classics yet - still got some higher age Aberlours, Glendronachs etc. very much on my wish list in this sort of price bracket - being my maximum)!

Surprised this hasn’t been reviewed before. Nose - sherry, marmalade Arrival - big hit of sherry, marmalade and slight chocolate signature malt taste from Glenallachie. Despite cask strength smooth enough not to need water, with no ethanol bite. Development - again long and mellows with toffee and vanilla/mocha notes shining through. It is sweet, but disagree with a score of 2 for “body”, this has a reasonable backbone in my view. A pricey whisky at knocking on £100 (for my peasant’s budget), but hooked after first sip and no regrets having splurged on a bottle.
