The 14th cask that The Scotch Malt whisky Society bottled from Ardmore. Very popular with blenders, comparatively very little single malt is released form the distillery. The title of this bottling is "Crème brulee and tyre brulee" and is has notes of crème brulee, brown sugar, plums and apricots.

Tasting Notes

  • Producer's Note

A little-known malt, since most of it goes into Teacher's blends. The distillery stands deep in rural Aberdeenshire, between the ancient villages of Spynie and Kennethmont, and was built by Teacher's in 1898. This venerable example has been drawn from a European puncheon and is deep amber in colour, with rusty-red lights. The nose has a woody astringency, but behind this a deep fruitiness (ripe plums and apricots); these fruity notes come through in the flavour at this stage, which is cognac-like, with a hint of rubber in the aftertaste. Water knocks out the woodiness and sweetens ?brown sugar and creme brulee"" with a growing rubbery notes, as is often found in European casks. The flavour at reduced strength is sweet and rich, with some dryness in the after-taste, again, as one would expect from European oak.
