Product Description
Ageing in a combination of bourbon barrels and French oak wine casks brings layers of complexity to this intensely smoky Islay single malt. Sweet peat and maritime aromas of seaweed and rockpools dominate on the nose, before typically Port Charlotte notes of shellfish and sea herbs. Time in the glass reveals a softer side with touches of citrus and tropical fruit that bring a balancing freshness. Bruichladdich distillery, which has historically been associated with unpeated whiskies, introduced the heavily peated Port Charlotte in 2006. It has since become a favourite of whisky fans the world over for its pronounced smokiness and unmistakable Islay character.
I love this whisky, as it reminds me vividly of my first trip to Islay; a big peated Islay single malt, with salt and seaweed from the shore, wrapped up in a warm blanket. Eric Fergusson, The Whisky Exchange

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes
Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange
Nose
Toffee and vanilla fudge jump out before we dive into a bucket of singed raisins and smouldering peat bricks. Green grass and leafy notes poke out around the edges along with candied lemons and flamed orange peel.
Palate
A sweet creamy hit up front leads into lemon boiled sweets. black-pepper spice and a thick layer of peaty smoke. The green edges from the nose are back, with richer notes of stewed apples and sultanas, and a touch of vanilla toffee.
Finish
Menthol throat sweets and sweet smoke slowly fade to leave grilled apples and buttery pastry.

With a drop of Highland Spring, Port Charlotte is one of my favourite Islays, Oak and smoke, just lovely.
Delightful, every bit as good as reviews have suggested.
Pure heaven!
Damn good whiskey. Can't get more specific than that.
"Smoky, peaty, but with a weirdness at the back of it all". This is how i've described this one at my place of work, and a year and half later, it still feels apropo. It isn't necessarily the most peaty dram out there, but don't let that take away from the experience. It is smoky, peaty, and just a little bit weird; if nothing else, it's one of the most memorable whisky's i've ever tried.
