Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes by Stuart P
Nose
Just a flicker of grassiness which soon evolves into rich, intense aromas of earthy malt and brioche.
Palate
Dense, tightly knit and full bodied. A lot going on here. Tropical fruit, almonds, gutsy earthiness and grippy peat. Let this one develop in the glass – the whisky will thank you for it.
Finish
That nagging earthiness continues, as does the peat.
Tasting Notes by Billy A
Nose
Waxy up front, with muddy smoke. It's more austere than the its stablemate, Rutter, with mineral notes of granite and limestone. Green apple and sweeter fruit develops in the glass along with some chocolate, milky coffee, floral touches, butter and nutmeg.
Palate
Big mineral hit up front - gravel and granite chips. Sweetness builds behind with fresh sweet apples, floral syrup and then fades through darker flavours - stewed apples, dark brown sugar, raisins, blackcurrant and liquorice sweets, and some earth and tar. Water lightens things up and maybe not for the better - more spice and sweetness, but less complexity.
Finish
Spice and earth, with anise, syrup, and lingering gravel and creosotey hints.
Producer's Notes
Colour
An Cnoc Flaughter is pale gold in appearance.
Nose
Initially smoky and ashy. Underneath that, fresh vanilla notes ooze softness and creaminess while a sharper hint of sticky toffee offers a balancing sweetness.
Taste
A warming and smooth experience; peaty and intense but remarkably rounded, it flickers with hints of fragrant pipe tobacco, orchard fruits, brown sugar sweetness and a slight medicinal overtone. An intensely flavoursome, smoky and smooth finish.

Flaughter was a pleasant surprise. Gets peatier than expected and while not particularly complex, still very satisfying. I felt this one was better than Cutter. Stuart P''s suggestion to let it sit in the glass for a bit before drinking is spot on, it really comes together better and loses nothing.
