Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes by Stuart P
Nose
Baked apples, rich toasted spices (cinnamon, clove, nutmeg), orange blossom, green apples and some sweet citrus – lemon curd, perhaps. Lovely balance; nothing dominates.
Palate
The sweet, sticky Pedro Ximénez sherry cask makes its presence felt here, with lovely rich and ripe raisins and sultanas taking charge, along with notes of honey, Christmas-cake spices and fresh fig.
Finish
The sweet, rich fruit lingers and invites you to take another sip. Very moreish.
Comment
What impresses about this bottling is the precision and class on show. The rich fruit and spice never feels overblown, too, which is another plus. Very impressive.

Opened this last evening. This is my first bottle and I was keen to try what I hoped was a rich, sherry whisky and I was not disappointed. Last week I opened a 12yo Glendronach which I have enjoyed many times before. This BenRiach compares well, which is a real compliment. The BenRiach scored points for being 46%, ncf and natural colour - I always prefer this presentation of whisky. There's lots of fruit here and toffee, gentle spice and vanilla and the balance is excellent. This may have been my first bottle but I don't think it will be my last.
I think this is really excellent. I get cinnamon, dried ginger, toffee, wood and maybe some cocoa on the nose. The palette is a rich, spicy fruit pie. Yet more dried ginger on the finish along with some citrus. Loads going on and great balance. Cannot go wrong at under ?40 in my view.
Top notch
