Tasting Notes by Stuart P
Nose: Very clean and fruity, with fewer medicinal aromas than you might be used to with Laphroaig. Heady mango, bright citrus and a touch of smoked bacon and liquorice.
Palate: Much more peat and smoke than on the nose, this has fragrant green-mango notes, as well as black pepper, tarry rope, and a pleasing maritime edge.
Finish: Nicely balanced between the smoke and the fragrant fruit.
Comment: Rather elegant, this will please Laphroaig fans who value subtle fruitiness over a medicinal blast.

Tasting notes by Billy A
Nose: Sweet and fruity, with papaya, unripe mango and grapefruit up front, and spiced apple and pear behind. The smokiness is restrained but the trademark coastal and medicinal notes are there, with TCP joined by bung cloth, damp earth, coal dust and a hint of sea spray.
Palate: Soft and rounded with a fruity centre. Wrapped around that is earthy smoke and sweet liquorice, with gently tarry notes and coal smoke. As it develops, it picks up more savoury notes, with stony minerality complemented by a lick of brine.
Finish: Gentle smoke – abandoned beach bonfires – and coal dust fade to leave soft and fruity apple with a hint of spice.
Comment: I’m a big fan of the old-fashioned, fruity Laphroaigs, and this whisky has that character in spades. It’s not as in your face as the 10 Year Old, but has achieved its mellow nature through ageing, maintaining complexity and its core ‘Laphroaiginess’.

Producer's Tasting Notes
Nose: Scents of grapefruit and fresh mint
Palate: The first taste is pink peppercorns with light peat smoke and a soft dryness that resolves to the flavour of tobacco. Just a faint hint of the sea follows.
Finish: Long and mellow with a smoky aftertaste

Just a smidge too briney. Otherwise it's excellent.

Much more complex and less peaty than the 10. Kind enough on the palate to enjoy neat. Might be a good way to introduce someone to Islays before they try anything more muscular.
