Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Billy Abbott (The Whisky Exchange)

    • Nose

Waxed apples, pineapple, damp forest floors, toasted oats and honey flapjacks, Hob Nob biscuits, buttered toast with apple jam, salted caramel and butter icing. Citrus hints flash through the centre and a bed of sour, dark oak with hazelnuts and almonds sits below.

    • Palate

Sugared almonds and balanced barrel-char bitterness come up against apples and marzipan. Salted caramel, nut brittle and bittersweet brûlée topping follow with hints of char.

    • Finish

Sharp apple and a sprinkle of cinnamon cook down into a rich and fruity apple pie filling, complete with caramelised edges. Hob nobs and barley sugar appear at the end.

Absolutely stunning whisky, incredible flavour. I have also tasted the 17 Year Old which is excellent and a lot more affordable!

Spectacular. Best whisky I've ever had. Was lucky enough to have a dram at the Aberfeldy distillery in Speyside. So smooth and complex. Lots of reviews say it reminds them of the forest. That's spot on. I went walking in the forest later that day and it reminded me of the Craigellachie 31. "The whole wood smells like whiskey!" I exclaimed. Just a marvelous experience. I'm still dreaming about it.
