Colour
Burnished gold.
Aroma
A wonderful, intense, ‘dancing’ nose, with lots of different, intertwined aromas – powerful, oily peat, dark chocolate, smoked fish, hints of seaweed, and a curious, sharp herbal note. Waves of spicy black pepper. A splash of water brings forth some classic Ardbeg notes, such as creamy coffee, smoked fudge and pine resin. Even some hints of smoked coconut.
Taste
A peppery mouthfeel is followed by a crescendo of rich flavours. Treacle toffee, Turkish coffee, smoky bacon and lots of dark, dark chocolate. A curious burst of peachy, estery fruit, hickory wood, clove oil and a suggestion of black olives.
Finish
Seemingly lasting forever, with deep, deep, almost subterranean flavours of clove, tar, and rich toffee.

This is a fantastic whiskey. It's very smooth with no burn or need for ice to open it up. There's a lovely smoked salami aftertaste. Greg, you contradict your review. You give it 79/100 on your blog, yet 2/5 here, which equates to 40/100.
A magnificent smoke show of a whiskey. A real classic, buy whilst you can... this and the 21 are the best Ardbegs in decades. Wonderful stuff!
Peppery, oily smoke, intense but not as knock your socks off as the Corry. Not as much peat at the 10 but still very interesting. I'm so glad I bought it!
Tasting notes cover it but I will say it's nice not to have any hint of Sherry in my whisky.
Ardbeg is my favorite distillery. The 10 yr is a solid, go-to dram. The Oogie has richness and great balance. The Corry has an explosion of flavors that some think is too much but I love. With all that in mind, I thought the Kelpie would be tame and uninteresting. To my surprise, I took my first sip and fell in love. The Kelpie reminds me of my childhood in Oregon, starting with a buttery, almost lemon zest flavor that swells into a salty, briny salmon flavor with a finish of smooth smoke. I love it. And yes, it does pair very well with seafood.
