Glenfiddich 21 Year Old Winter Storm
70cl / 43%
- Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
- Distillery Bottling
Batch one of the third and hotly anticipated instalment in Glenfiddich’s Experimental Series, Winter Storm is a 21-year-old single malt that has been aged in Canadian ice wine barrels. The whisky offers notes of Turkish Delight and candied tropical fruit, which develop into juicy lychee.
This third experiment was born when the distillery’s Malt Master, Brian Kinsman, became fascinated by the interplay between sugar and acidity in sweet wines. He brought back several casks from Peller Estate in Canada for his research, and discovered that this Glenfiddich 21 Year Old, which has more complexity and oak tannins than its younger siblings, was the best equipped to handle the extra layer of sweetness from the wine-cask finish.

Fruit and oak blend beautifully to create a unique and delicious whisky
I sampled a dram today and was a bit disappointed as well considering its pricey tag! It was less sweet than I thought it should be and all in all a bit bland given its 21 years of oak aging! Even the Glenlivet 18 has more character and I think of that as fairly pedestrian. The nose is very promising with fruity scents, but once you taste it, you realize that perhaps you have overpaid. The finish is short and somewhat forgettable. Unlike some tasters, I do not sense any smokiness flavor. I compare this dram much like a childhood experience of receiving a beautifully wrapped exciting Christmas present only to be disappointed on tearing open the packaging to see clothing that no little boy has ever wished for! Sadly, much like the unwanted gift from ones's fave grandma, one cannot return this for a more exciting bottle!!
A total disappointment. We opened the bottle today and neither my partner, nor myself tasted anything sweet. If anything, it was peaty and not so smooth. You are better off buying the regular 21 year old. Total disappointment!
I give it 5 stars considering the snowy bottle and packaging amazing
