Product Description
This bold, full-bodied Australian rum is filled with notes of apricots, candied fruits and oranges. On the palate it boasts an oily, fatty texture with sweet hints of Victoria sponge and lemon sweets as well as a herbal side that provides a sense of balance and depth. It started out being filled into bourbon barrels filled at Australia’s oldest distillery, but was then transferred to a single ex-cognac cask which had been subsequently filled with French corn whisky to finish its maturation. This is a great introduction to a rum region that’s sometimes overlooked internationally. An ideal bottle for fans of Barbados or Jamaican rum looking to try something new.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes
Joe Rogers (The Whisky Exchange)
Nose
Honeycomb, apricots, golden syrup, sultanas, a slice of panettone, toffee, orange cordial, a touch of menthol.
Palate
More of that yellow stone fruit, molasses and honey, a little hint of tutti frutti ice cream, orange vitamins (Berocca),a lemon bonbon and some Victoria sponge. A drop of water brings out that mentholated side with some pleasantly savoury touches of juniper and woody herbs along with a couple of yellow tomatoes, vine leaves, macadamia nuts and toasted sesame seeds.
Finish
Pleasantly fatty in texture with notes of sunflower oil, paraffin lamps, ointments and beeswax.
Notes
Idiosyncratic but completely fascinating. That oily texture and the little candied notes are lovely but that subtly savoury and herbal edge really adds another dimension here.
Made in Australia
Sugarcane was first cultivated in Australia in the late 18th century, and the first Australian rums followed soon after. In the mid-20th century casks of Aussie rum became a cornerstone of the famed Royal Navy rum blends, wherein they mingled with the very best of Barbados, Jamaica, and Guyana. Even today, with rum lovers scouring the world in search of new frontiers of flavour, we see precious few bottlings from Australia. This makes our exclusive single cask from the country’s oldest distillery all the more special.
Transcontinental Rum Line
This striking series from Habitation Velier showcases rums that have been shipped from their tropical origins and further aged in the relative cool of continental Europe. This type of dual maturation was common in the history of rum, and it’s a practice we’re glad has endured to this day. After four years in Australia and six in Europe, this vividly fruity rum has a sense of roundness and refinement that belies its natural cask strength. A great bottling that reminds us of how wide the world of rum is.

If you’re looking for a whisky, rum or cognac that you won’t find anywhere else, our selection of exclusive bottlings is the perfect place to start.
