Product Description
This is a very special exclusive release from Torabhaig, the second licensed distillery to open on the Isle of Skye. It was distilled in 2018, only the distillery's second year of operation, and has been finished for 16 months in a rare Scottish-oak cask. The result is a peaty dram with well-integrated smokiness wrapped around baked apples and well-worn leather.
Scottish oak is seldom seen in whisky making thanks to it being difficult to work with. Rather than the tall and straight trees you find in the USA, Scottish oak can be much shorter and gnarlier, with knots breaking up the wood. However, whiskies like this show that it can be worth the trouble.

Nose
Well-worn leather balanced against sweet peat smoke and brown-sugar-dusted baked apples. Polished oak with hints of sweet spice follows, sitting alongside damp leaves, seaside rock pools and a touch of sea spray. Damp ferns and pine needles develop.
-
Palate
Sweet caramel sauce and sharp green apples are quickly joined by black pepper, wet grass and lime peel. Damp peat smoke floats around, with tar and creosote in the distance. Underneath is rich, bittersweet dark chocolate and wax-polished oak.
-
Finish
Lingering mint chocolate, damp grass and gentle smoke.

About Torabhaig
Sitting in a beautifully restored 19th-century farmstead, Torabhaig is only the second distillery – and first new one in over 190 years, after Talisker – to be built on the Isle of Skye. From their island-influenced whisky style to the Gaelic names bestowed on their bottlings, this is a distillery that has a deep sense of place running through all it does.
