Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Whiskyfun (Serge Valentin)

    • Nose: Interestingly, this is pretty much like the 1995, only a little less mature. So more discreet, more mineral (clay, sand) and certainly grassier. It’s not a very smoky Laphroaig at this point. With water: correction, it’s a very smoky Laphroaig. Water unleashed the sooty/smoky side as well as some kind of green, zesty herbs, between rhubarb and, maybe sorrel? Chartreuse. BTW, any Chartreuse in Tarentino’s latest? Gosh, you just cannot escape the massive advertising campains for that movie, it’s absolutely everywhere, which makes you feel you just shouldn’t go see it. It’s a little nauseating, isn’t it. Mouth (neat): This time we’re closer to the 1995, it’s all very zesty, then peppery and even a little mustardy. A very punchy one that gets stronger and stronger, sort of like when you wolf down some ‘very hot’ Indian food with apparent ease (to impress your guests) and then feel the heat climbing up your oesophagus. I’m sure you know the feeling… With water: the situation is under control, phew! Finish: Long, with peppery afterglows. Or ripples? Comments: Same high quality as the 1995, only with many more spices. Actually, I like this one a little better, it’s got more oomph. SGP:467 - 90 points.
