A real treasure. The malt in this bottle was distilled in 1919 and bottled in 1969, which shows how far ahead of their time the Mitchell family company were. This malt resembles very closely the whisky bottled as Campbeltown 1919, of which only 24 bottles were released. Campbeltown 1919 costs around £50,000 (if you can find it), making this a relative bargain.

The third edition in the Rosebank Roses collection, Jealousy is a 21-year-old single malt which, like the others in the collection, has been released to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Named after the yellow Jealousy rose this whisky has an elegant and complex character, certain to leave other distilleries jealous. The nose is floral and sweet; sugared violets and candied hazelnuts instantly present, followed by meadow flowers and freshly-mown grass. The palate is smooth and creamy; notes of apples, sultanas and white chocolate immediately burst through, and nutmeg and shortbread develop slowly. The floral notes are still present, developing into a light, sweet finish that lingers endearingly. The Rosebank Roses is a set of seven whiskies from the late Rosebank distillery, bottled by Elixir Distillers, released every year on Valentine’s Day. Each edition of the Roses is named after a different variety of rose, chosen for their relation to the whiskies’ character.

This exclusive single-cask bottling of 35-year-old single malt, created by Elixir Distillers, layers vanilla and spiced butter around the Karuizawa core. The distinctive emerald labels combine beautiful Japanese art forms with complex hot foil and intricate embossing embellishments, giving the bottles a sculptured finish. They were designed by The Whisky Exchange’s creative director Raj Chavda, who is also a fellow of the Royal Society of Art.

The nose holds heady notes of vanilla, banana and gentle oak notes, followed by a gentle peat smoke and lemon zest. The palate opens with notes of oak and peat smoke, and is followed by a salty maritime element. The finish is long and lingering, with sweet notes of banana and plenty of peat smoke. The palate offers notes of salty peanuts, medicinal smoke, lime juice, smoked pineapple, aniseed, tar and peat smoke that linger in the finish.

A limited-edition 1989 Glendronach single malt, released in 2020 to celebrate The King's Man film. Made from a combination of six sherry casks, hand selected by master blender Rachel Barrie and the film's writer, producer and director Matthew Vaughn, each cask was filled in 1989 and matured for 29 years. Aromas of dark berries, tart plum skins, sherry-soaked walnuts, leather and rich oak spices fill the nose. The palate offers notes of autumn fruits, dates, figs, cocoa, raisins and treacle.
