Old Hobart's flagship whisky, aged in 100 litre French oak, ex-port quarter casks. The small casks help the spirit develop more intense flavours, showing off the quality of both the new make and the French oak.

Overeem Single Malt Whisky Reviews

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Billy A

Nose: Sweet and grassy, with touches of marzipan and dark fruit. Some spirity notes, ginger, yeasty bread dough, single cream and chocolatey oak.

Palate: Sweet cream and rich caramel, berry laden yoghurt, a touch of brown sugar and gentle sweet oak.

Finish: Cream and white sugar, slowly turning to woody spice, twigs and gently sour fruit.

Comment: The hints of spirit from the nose stay resolutely out of the body, giving a light and sweet whisky with some good creaminess. Less full on than many port cask matured whiskies I've tried and the better for it.

  • Producer's Notes

On the Eye: Deep gold & brassy

On the Nose: Moderately intense aromatics, fruit chocolates, caramel, butterscotch, Turkish delight, crème Brule, plum pudding rum soaked raisins, hint of cider

On the Palate: Creamy texture, sweet and delicately spicy, fruitcake, caramel, licorice & sweet malt.

The Finish: Long. Vanilla bean laced with spiced raisins.

Nose: A delicate balance of white flowers, vanilla ripe summer fruits, with a sweetened cream drizzled over the top. About as summery a whisky you could ask for. Palate: The first sip gives way to notes of liquorice, lemon grass, some toasted oak and a darker, richer fruitiness, think blackcurrant, toasted vanilla, dark chocolate, a touch of spice and notes of leather and lemon zest. Finish: subtle and balanced. Balance between spirit and wood character is spot on!
