Customer Rating
A bottle of Yamazaki Puncheon from the 2013 Cask Collection, the final year of the series. Aged in 480 litre oak Puncheon, this is a rich and sweet Japanese whisky, but one that is elegant due to the slightly slower ageing caused by the smaller spirit to wood ratio.

This spirit has almost no flavor, only woody tones and light honey notes. Tasted more like a new make that's aged for no more than 3 months. I just don't get the point. It's not even a pricing thing, it's just... Why on earth did they have to release such a boring product?

The Puncheon is the essential ingredient that gives this Yamazaki single malt whisky its unique balance of sweet flavours and deep rich aromas. Bottle at 48% ABV, Yamazaki Puncheon single malt whisky is made to be enjoyed neat. Rich aromas and sweet coconut and vanilla flavour that only a Puncheon cask can deliver. This edition was produced as part of the Cask Series in 2013, now discontinued like the rest of the 2013 Cask series. The Sherry Cask version won the title of Best Whisky in the World 2015, subsequently the retail price rocketed. Needless to say the alternative 2013 versions like this Puncheon will follow suit.
