Port Dundas 1978 Reviews
Tasting notes by Billy A
Nose: Wood glue, varnish and beeswax polish, backed up by an almost rum-like sweetness. Royal icing, vanilla essence, sweet popcorn and a touch of woody spice.
Palate: Oak and spice to start, with sweetness and freshly sawn oak in balance. Some mape syrup sweetness and drying oak tannins develop, with caramel and a hint of dusty pencil shavings.
Finish: Sweet and surprisingly lingering, with a touch of heat, liquorice root, root Beer and polished oak.
Producer's NotesA burnished gold coloured whisky with great depth of character on the nose - full bodied and mellow, vanilla custard powder with marinated rich fruits giving a sweet but balanced profile. Creamy and smooth on the palate, with vanilla sweetness to the fore and sultanas and raisins in the background. A long, lingering and sweet finish with a wisp of oak created a delightful aftertaste.
