Product Description

What is Laphroaig 10 Year Old best known for?

Laphroaig 10 Year Old is best known for a distinctive coastal, medicinal and peaty character. Sometimes described as a “love it or hate it” whisky, Laphroaig is one of the highest-selling single malts in the world, which suggests that a lot of people have discovered its charm.

How is Laphroaig 10-Year-Old made?

Laphroaig is distilled on Islay and is one of the last remaining Scottish whisky distilleries with its own floor maltings. The island peat infuses the malted barley with those distinctive smoky character. It is then matured for 10 years in ex-bourbon barrels by the Atlantic, drawing depth and sweetness as it ages.

What does Laphroaig 10-Year-Old taste like?

Full-bodied and smoky, with seaweed, iodine and a touch of sweetness weaving through the peat. There's a hint of salt too, before a long, warming finish.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange

    • Nose

Singed lemons, cresosote-painted fences and pink shrimp sweets. There’s wood smoke and sea spray, as well as sweetness – toffee and candied citrus peel.

    • Palate

Oily on the palate, with charcoal and coal stoves to start. It’s not as sweet as on the nose, with layers of smoke, brine and hints of smoked fish. The initial dryness gives way to some gently fruity notes, with waxy apples joined by candied lemon and bitter Seville orange.

    • Finish

Barrel char, cinnamon spice and hints of fruit. A bonfire sits on the tongue, slowly fading to sweet anise.

    • Comment

Not as fruity as some of the older bottles, focusing on the core Laphroaig medicinal character with wood smoke as backup. Intense, distinctive and definitely Laphroaig.

A wonderfully rich smoked peat, with an iridescent medicinal trace. An excellent treat, (and oft taken!)

Had this bottle for a couple years and only a quarter left in it, had a glass and wow it's fantastic. Wasn't to keen on it at first, now it's my favourite.

Personally I absolutely love this Whisky but it is a bit of a 'Marmite' option, in that I know others that hate it - Its very peaty and best drunk at room temperature, straight without ice. Not a good beginners or ocassional whisky drinkers choice though

Horrible burning sensation and tastes like petroleum. The smoky taste is too jarring and for my money Talisker is more smooth.

Surprising but pleasant sweetness. Sea salt, smoke, brine. Great mouth feel. Reminiscent of old furniture in a good way. Classic.
