Another divisive whisky in the vein of Loch Dhu - a massively dark dram with vociferous fans. The name is meant to mean 'black dog' in Gaelic, although there are some questions about the spelling…

Tasting Notes

  • Producer's Note

    Colour:  Solid Black

Nose: Sweetness, tobacco, burnt wood, root of liquorice. A cool impression tones forward.

Palate: Hot, notes of liquorice and vanilla tone forward. Sweet, smooth and well-balanced.

Finish: Good balance between sweet and a hint of hot strong coffee. A whisky with a bite. The malt comes through.

What a strange but lovely malt brought as a gift had a few after dinner discussions with father in law and family reminded me of Irish whiskey with the different tastes running over the tongue keep up the good work

i first tasted cu/dubh some twenty years ago it is fantastic malt.

It is absolutely divine! Intriguing dark color. Intoxicating rich flavor. I hate to hear it went down the must have been amateur hour at your local whisky cabinet.

Hmm, a terrifying number of positive reviews for this one.... I got bought it as a present and I can honestly say its the worst "whisky" I've ever had. I dont consider myself an expert but I'm sure the number of bottles I've purchased is now in triple figures. This ended up down the drain I'm afraid - avoid! Does not deserve this much praise!

I'll forgive the Danes their spelling after trying a wee bottle of this whisky. It's superb, very easy on the tastebuds but very complex too. I won't wax lyrical on the subject, but just say keep up the good work!

Extraordinary single malt. I had a notion that this would be peaty, and it's anything but. Fruit and caramel, a toffee-apple dram, great handfuls of the stuff. Quite something else.

Just returned from Scotland, bought quite a few miniatures to sample different whiskys, this was one. Both me and my partner thought it was lovely, hints of caramel and licorice, nice aftertaste, would highly recommend it.

Unusual and interesting - prevalent licorice (though not overpowering) and caramel malt but it just tastes too subdued... perhaps a cask strength bottling might secure my future patronage, for now though I'd say its good for the money, but save a few more quid and get yourself something with more oomph

Stuff the spelling - Duhb, Duhb, Dubh and so on and so forth You're just wasting valuable drinking time, and if you want my opinion, which you're going to get regardless, it's WONDERFUL . . . .

Hi people, I am the responsible to blame for the misspelling of The Black Dog. I must have misunderstood the dictionary back in 2001. But you can find that way of spelling on the internet. Continue ...

Anyway, done is done - and today so many followers don't care. So we will not change our brand name, but let is shine as an example on human error. I hope the black whisky makes up for my blunder. And many thanks for the positive reviews - they mean a lot to us.

Love this one very much. It's my number one. The only problem is that the bottles are to soon empty.

CU DUBH, you heathens! How could market this excellent whisky in Vulcan language. If you get the spelling right, I might buy a bottle.
