Customer Rating
A special extension of the Johnnie Walker range, King George V celebrates the first Royal Warrant granted to John Walker and Sons Ltd to supply Scotch whisky to the British Royal Household in 1934, and is apparently designed to recreate how JW might have tasted back in the day. Some Port Ellen has been used, alongside Cardhu, Lochnagar and some very old grain whisky.

John Walker & Sons King George V Reviews

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting notes by Simon Difford (diffordsguide)

Appearance: Clear, dark golden with bright golden highlights.

Aroma: Fruity Christmas cake soaked in sherry with linseed oil, nuts, vanilla and daffodil floral aromas.

Taste: Huge yet graceful with generous sweet fruit, vanilla, caramel and honey balanced by dry lightly smoky oak and spice.

Aftertaste: Long, surprisingly smoky, salty, spicy finish.
  • Producer's Tasting Notes

Nose: Profound smoky initial aroma followed by sweet, fresh fruit (apples, pears, bananas) malt characteristics; developing into rich dried fruit/spicy complexity (raisins, figs, cinnamon).

Palate: Smooth with a rich, fruity sweetness. Warming with subtle flavours of sandalwood and smoke.

Taste: Powerful, complex, rich and smooth.

Finish: Mouthwarming and lingering rich peaty finish.

With water: Releases new flavours, more fresh fruitiness and more smoke on the palate.

Truly you won''t want to drink Blue Label after this - it''s a terrific whisky - although it is pricy it tastes better than many whiskies I have bought (and drunk) which are twice the price..................

My brother has been drinking Blue Label ever since he remembers, but today, for the first time ever he had King George V, and seeing him was like watching someone having an orgasm on every sip. He cataloged it as smooth as velvet, smoky and rich in fruity flavor.

    it was awesome whisky.

  • Örjan 27 January 2011

Deep silky Flavours, Elegance and one of the smoothest smookinesses ive ever tasted.

This is a truly original whisky of blended history. Words such as flavours of sandalwood and smoke have no real meaning in terms of taste so I suggest you try it for yourself. Did I like it? Absolutely!Do I recommend it? Absolutely!

I had a drink out of my first bottle the day I found out my wife was pregnant with our first child. Its next pour will be 21 years from now. I can't wait and am buying another bottle. It is well worth the price
