Product Description
This 2023-vintage Hampden is an exclusive single cask bottling for The Whisky Exchange, selected by our team for its classically Jamaican funky character. Tropical fruit notes jump out of the glass along with stacks of sugarcane grassiness and some rich, dried-fruit notes thanks to its maturation in an ex-sherry cask.
While Hampden was founded in 1753, it's only recently that the distillery team has started to experiment with sherry casks, sourcing the one for this release from sherry and brandy maker Bodegas Fundador. The spirit is Hampden's HLCF (Hampden Light Continental Flavoured) mark, sitting in the middle of the distillery's range of spirits: approachable, but still distinctly a Hampden rum.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes
Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange
Nose
This jumps out of the glass with stacks of fruit: banana and banana peel, pineapple and mango, fresh pear and pear drops. Leafy mint and new-car leather sit alongside waxy wood polish and bubblegum.
Palate
More restrained than expected from the nose, but still intense. Grassy sugar cane and hay lead to pineapple and mint. Spice builds along with dried fruit: sultanas and cinnamon, raisins and cloves. The bubblegum sweetness returns, joined by stewed berries, chocolate, toffee and hints of tar.
Finish
Very long, with the darker char and tar notes quickly fading to leave sultanas, raisins and dried pineapple.
