Capucana
Christiano Matthiessen founded the distillery in 1886, formerly a road engineer, he emigrated from Denmark to Brasil to start a new life. He and his wife Sofia, with the help of the then President of Brasil Pudente de Morais, purchased the estate where the distillery is located today. Although the estate was first used for the production of coffee, in 1900, Matthiessen decided to produce sugarcane and cachaca, first only substitute his thirst for good Danish aquavit, then commercially. His great-grandchildren today continue his legacy, producing only the finest cachaca, with the utmost respect for quality and nature. Today Capucana is PEFC certified, which is the most influential association of forestry sustainability.
