We’re delighted to introduce our Rising Star for 2025, WV Baker & Cie, a pioneer of sourcing and bottling Cognacs from tiny parcels all over the region. The brand is rightly acclaimed and celebrated for bringing unheralded and often unnamed spirits to Cognac lovers – often single casks or single varietals, which combine huge character and long ageing at an accessible price point.
Our Rising Star award celebrates those smaller-scale producers distilling, blending or bottling spirits in their own distinctive way and playing their part in progressing the culture around spirits, and this couldn’t be more true of founders Benjamin and Marie Baker.

The Spirit of Cognac
It’s the Cognacs that have won WV Baker & Cie our Rising Star award, but its story is just as compelling. Raised in the Fins Bois region of Cognac to a French mother and an English father, Benjamin Baker was a pilot before he found his way back into the world of eaux-de-vie. He gained experience at Distillerie Merlet et Fils, Cognac Grosperrin and Bache-Gabrielsen before founding the company with his wife Marie in 2022. Today, Benjamin sources some of the finest and most idiosyncratic Cognacs from across the region, and adorning certain labels with Marie’s beautiful watercolour paintings.
