Arran 2004 / Orkney Bere Barley
Product Description

A 2004 vintage whisky from Arran, produced from Bere barley, the oldest cultivated barley strain used in Scotland, as a collaboration with the Agronomy Institute of Orkney College. Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Producer's Notes

    • Colour

      Ripe Golden Barley.

    • Aroma

Malty and herbal initially with hints of vanilla freshly cut hay. A veritable hedgerow of aromas is at play whilst honey and sweet fruits emerge with a dash of water against a back-drop of rich, toasted oak.

    • Palate

Ripe apples and oak dominate at first before a full-bodied spiciness envelopes the palate and cuts through the sweetness.

    • Finish

The bold malt re-appears to mingle beautifully with the spices which soften over time. The influence of the Bere Barley is dramatic and unmistakeable; offering a taste of whisky as it used to be.
