More from Writers Tears
Was visiting Ireland, eating lunch at the bar when I glanced up and saw Writers Tears on the shelf. Since I run a bookshop I saw it only fitting to try it. It is a little rough, but delicious once you get past the first sip. My husband and I were on our way back from somewhere when I realized the distillery, Walsh’s, was only 30 minutes out of our way. We made good time and caught the last tour of the day where we learned that this recipe is called Writers Tears because it is a recipe that was popular in the times of the great Irish writers and made as close as possible as well. I not only recommend all their offerings but the tour as well if you ever get the chance!
Being a major fan of Irish whiskeys – Red Breast being one of my favorites – I find this mediocre at best. It is not as smooth as anticipated.
Very nice after dinner drink. Smooth, mellow flavor with hints of honey. I liked it enough to keep a bottle for sitting on the porch and sipping at the end of the day.
I was introduced to Writers Tears about eight years ago at, what is now, Celtic Whiskey Shop and Wines on Dawson Street in Dublin, Ireland. I took a chance with one free taste, and I immediately bought a bottle. If you desire an easy drinking, light tasting whiskey with no major after taste or burn, then I would suggest Writers Tears. This is not a 21 year old Balvenie, top shelf Macallan, or one of the six Classic Malts of Scotland. This is simply an easy drinking whiskey. My wife prefers Writers Tears served neat. ENJOY!
Great drink, 2/3rds through the bottle now and it's a favorite. Lovely balance, I don't pick up a hot finish at all. Wonderful irish character, not overly complex and doesn't get dragged into overly perfumed or honeyed taste, just lovely. Agree it's nicer than green spot, at least the low end green spot ( haven't tried the other spots ). This is in my favorite 5 standard after balvennie, hp18, talisker, glengoyne
