    • Nose

      Salted lemons, a whiff of charcoal smoke, crunchy green apples, tropical fruit chews, unripe mango, beeswax, honey, dusty wood and fruity dark chocolate – maybe chocolate limes? It developed in the glass, picking up more fruit and slowly cutting the citrus notes.

    • Palate

      It started off with syrup sweetness, quickly moving on to sour and creamy wood, with more tropical chews, pineapple and smoked orange rind.

    • Finish

      Smoky wood, malt syrup, green pine cones and woody spice.

      Heather-honey sweetness; peaty smokiness.

    I lived in Orkney for 8 years and have done the tour more than once, but for all that I am not biased. I picked this bottle up again after a 2 year absence and must say that it is absolutely delicious - to my mind more complex in flavour than the smoother more expensive 18 year old - though they are all rather good!

    Nice whisky with complex palate. It's very pleasureable to drink. It has aromatic smoke on nose, it's more fruity than sweet on tongue and has long and not annoying smoky wood finish. All these place it high on my list. I like the small handy glasses too but still prefer proper Glencairn glass.
