An unusual official bottling of Glendronach created for the Incorporation of Maltmen in Glasgow in the late 1990s. Only 456 were ever made, and we can assume that the maltmen saw to more than a few, so this is quite a difficult expression to come by. Those lucky enough to pull the cork on this bottle will be greeted by a beautiful example of 1970s Glendronach. The blackberries, plums and strawberries we love to find in whiskies from this old Highlander are all present and correct, accompanied by intriguing tropical and mineral elements that meld perfectly with rich, old-school sherry cask influence. This sort of profile can be difficult to find in modern single malts – one of the many reasons old bottlings like this one are so special.

The initial sense was one of smooth sweetness, velvety almost, and then a wonderfully light but definite flavour of peat- so much so that I thought Islay might be in Speyside.A truly remarkable dram with a fabulous depth of colour to join its rich,deep taste.
