A blend of rums from Gray's distillery in Mauritius – aged in French limousin oak and and ex-Cognac casks – and Foursquare distillery in Barbados – aged in American white oak casks – this is a rounded and flavourful rum with a great balance between fruity sweetness and soft, oaky spice.
Equiano is exclusively blended and bottled at Foursquare in Barbados.
I was disappointed as this was hyped up ad i was recommended this by a family member. For me this has to much bourbon after taste and for a rum lover not nice also too expensive.

When I first heard about Equiano rum I thought it was hype. I expected a sugar bomb. Was I pleasantly mistaken. I should have known that if Richard Seale was involved in the rum's creation that there would be no sugar added to it. But after tasting a few of his exceptional cask strength rums, which are superb, this is a welcome alternative. Equiano is medium bodied, easy drinking rum. In fact TOO easily drunk. I sipped it neat, and with a ginger ale too. Both serves were amazing. I initially thought it was a bit pricey, but know I understand, especially as some of the rums are aged in cognac casks from Mauritius, so the premium price is expected.
Damn ! I expected Equiano rum to be an over hyped sweet rum, especially at a premium price point, but I was pleasantly surprised. It has an initial sweet taste on the palate, but dries off with some tropical fruit notes with a touch of peppers and spice on the finish. A delicious tasting rum with no sugar, additives or caramel added to the blend of rum from Barbados & somewhere in Africa. Still trying to find which country that is. Works well neat and in my favourite Rum & dry ginger ale.
Just unbelievably good, tastes great on its own but will also stand up to a fairly robust mixing in a cocktail (maintains its own characteristics without being overpowered by other ingredients). For a "new rum" it would give Ron Zacapa a run for its money.
