VAT 69 is a famous old brand of blended whisky, chosen by Sir Ernest Shackleton to accompany him on his Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition of 1914 'for medicinal and celebratory purposes', and also famously the favourite whisky of Captain Lewis Nixon of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, immortalised in the book and TV series Band of Brothers.

Growing up Band of Brothers was without a doubt my favorite show, so over the years of my stationing in Europe I finally had the thought to locate it myself. Finally found a bottle in both a dive bar in Brindisi, Italy and Chania, Crete. Hands down my favorite all purpose whiskey for mixing and drinking straight. CHURAHEE!!!

I purchased a bottle in Rudesheim Germany. I enjoyed it even though I don't normally drink whiskey. I will purchase this I'm respect for LT Nixon.

Usually i drink single malts from speyside to isle of islay, preferably with a sherry cask finish. Bought this one because my dad used to drink this, so nostalgia is involved here. I am truely surprised by it ! After letting it breathe for about 6-7 min, it starts to open up. Nice nose, and after letting it burn out, a very nice pallate, that opens up even more after 3-4 drops of water. Finish is a bit thin, compared to smokey islay's, but good enough for its price. My dad knew his whisky's, and i'll follow in his footsteps and will be buying this one more often

A mediocre blend of poor quality SPIRIT artificially coloured.
