Product Description

An impressively-aged Caol Ila from independent bottler Elixir Distillers that was matured in a single hogshead for four decades, before being bottled as part of its Director's Special series. Aromas of elderflower cordial, herbal smoke, cloudy honey, mint chocolate and Earl Grey tea fill the nose, complemented by notes of orange oil, honey, eucalyptus, elderflower, coal smoke and beach bonfires throughout the palate.

Tasting Notes

- Nose
  
  Nettle and elderflower cordial with just a hint of aromatic smoke give a wonderful nod to the spirit of the incredibly well aged Islay malt. Notes of earl grey tea with a spoonful of cloudy honey rises from the glass complimented by a beautiful herbaceous tone with tarragon and chocolate mint.
- Palate
  
  Flavours of honey and orange oil create this wonderful dichotomy which continues to develop with time in the glass. Eucalyptus and elderflower create a very delicate feel and are contrasted and complimented by a richer, almost agave like sweetness. Orange citrus and chocolate with a hint of chilli spice creates more depth while a hint of coal smoke balances the sweet and sour notes.
- Finish
  
  Tarragon and rosemary develop along with a beautifully rich tangerine juice. The smoke is still there creating more length but it is very light like the dying embers of a beach fire.
